Project Roadmap

Summary: For a better understanding of how a web project is handled, we've put an example road map together to illustrate it.

1. Meeting / Detailed Brief

We'll meet first and assess your requirements. These include services required, features, timing & budget. A meeting should preferably be face to face, or if not possible it can be on Skype or the phone.

If a meeting is not possible or practical, a detailed brief can be supplied. This will only be viable where the client is able to supply a detailed enough brief for costing purposes. A good start would be filling out our web project questionnaire.

2. Documentation & Quote

Given the criteria established in the meeting, a costing will be established and presented. All initial documentation will be dealt with at this point. This includes signing the quote and contract, payment schedule and deposit (normally 50%).

3. Project Planning

This is where the real work begins. We begin by collecting all assets for the job (images, text documents, logo etc.). A sitemap will be drawn up and a spec document will be created outlining all functionality and scope.

4. Content Creation & Design

If a copywriter is a requirement, this is when (s)he will commence work. Tasks like photography, custom graphic design, flash etc. will be done now. Starting with a wireframe to establish layout, the designer will proceed to create design comps. for client approval.

5. Layout & Programming

With the design established, the HTML/CSS will be created first as a master template and then all the subsequent templates. The programmer(s) will either install the system or begin working with the HTML to create your custom system.

6. Testing & Bug Fixing

On completion of integrating the coded designs into the chosen system, there must be a testing phase where all functions of the site need to be tested. Any bugs found will be removed now.

7. Deployment

Your project has now run through sufficient planning which lead to fast and effective design and programming, a testing and bug fixing phase that rendered it ready for public consumption, so now it's ready to go live.

8. Marketing & Maintenance

Your site is now online. People need to know about it, so marketing must commence. Nobody wants to always see the same content on a site, so a regular maintenance schedule should be kept to.
